Signaling molecules and processes are being increasingly implicated in pollen tube growth and in the complex interaction of pollen grains and tubes with pistil tissues during pollination and fertilization. Signaling proteins, such as G proteins, protein kinases, calcium-mediated signal cascades, cyclic AMP, and the regulation of cytoskeletal dynamics, are some of the recent areas of research that are providing new insights into pollen tube growth and development. The focus of this minireview is directed to G proteins and their involvement in pollen tube growth
