Most important insects of sugarcane in the tillering stage are the early shoot borer (Chilo infuscatellus Snellen) the white top borer (Scirpophaga excerptalis Walker) and the pink borer (Sesamia inferens Walker). The larvae feed within the growing point has mainly focused on reducing insecticide usage for shoot borer control by cultural method. The first paired comparison was made under burn dry sugarcane leaf after harvesting and unburned (mulching) plots in Chonburi Suphan Buri Kanchanaburi and Udorntani provinces. The second, paired comparison was made under burning+bagasses and burning in Udorntani province. Observation were carried out over many locations with many cane varieties, showed that in the mulching plots an average only 3.07 percent shoot infestation were found while in burning plots gave 10.65 percent shoot infestations. Most of mulching plots reduced and infestation to levels below the economic threshold. An average cane yield of mulching plots in small plot experiment was higher than burning plot about 2.91 ton/rai or 33.33 percent increased yield, and cane yield on mulching plots in large scale test was higher than burning plots about 1.52 ton/rai or 28.99 percent increased yield. The results of the second showed that the average yield of burning+bagasses was higher than burning plots about 3.72 ton/rai or 40.06 percent increased yield.
