Institute of Public Health of Belgrade (Yugoslavia) has been performing systematic control of quality of the Belgrade Waterworks drinking water for more 25 years. In 2001, we analyzed 6,387 samples and found physical/chemical aberrations in 1.5% of them. Aberrations in bacteriological content were found in 4.0% of the above number of samples. These aberrations are of long-term nature, expected in such huge systems. The paper primarily deals with water quality from the standpoint of analyzed disinfection by-products: trihalomethanes and halogenated acetic acids. Our results show that in the water samples taken from the Belgrade Waterworks those parameters appear in concentrations significantly lower than the recommended border values.
