Spray quality characteristics of new and worn flat fan nozzles made of different materials were investigated. The materials investigated were plastic, ceramic and stainless steel. To reach a flow rate increase of 10 percent, ceramic tips can be used approximately 3.5 times longer than plastic tips, and 2 times longer than stainless steel tips. As a consequence of nozzle wear, there is only a slight increase of droplet size at a constant liquid pressure but a considerable increase occurs at a constant flow rate with the corresponding lower fluid pressure. There is no indication that wear of flat fan nozzles will impair the spray distribution pattern.
