The occurrence of Protoopalina sp. was observed in the intestines of 17 aquarium fish of the genus Symphysodon. In 15 cases, the Protoopalina infestation of the gut was accompanied by the presence of parasites from the genus Hexamita or Spironucleus. The 2 other cases were characterized by a simultaneous invasion by ectoparazites Ichthyophtirius sp. or Dactylogyrus sp. We also found parasites in tadpoles of Xenopus levis causing death before the metamorphosis. The gut parasites belonged probably to the genus Opalina. In one case, a massive infestation by Trichodina sp. was also observed. In order to treat parasitosis caused by Protoopalina sp. and Opalina sp. we used metronidazol (product Entizol, 750 mg/100 L of water) and the product Clout. The use of Entizol was successful, while the use of Clout caused the death of 50 % of fish and 100 % of tadpoles.
