Urban forestry - the European perspective

In this paper, an example of acoordination effort in Europe, COST Action E12 'Urban Forest and Trees', is introduced. This network of urban forestry researchers from 23 countries aims to improve the knowledge base for urban forestry. A state of the art overview of resent and ongoing research on urban forests and urban trees in Europe has been one of the main activities of the Action. This overview indicates that relevant research activities are currently fragmented, mono-disciplinary and primarily local and regional. A clear need exists for further coordination, integration and development of research efforts, so that sustainable urban green space management can be supported
