The study of appropriate technologies developed to increase women's production and productivity in Ethiopia part-I and part II
2001
The study, which is a joint operation of Winrock International Ethiopia (WIE), the Women's Affairs Office of the Prime Minister's Office (WAO) and the Women's Affairs Department (WAD) of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) aims at identifying the different governmental, non-governmental agencies, and higher learning institutions that are engaged in rural technology development and promotion and making an inventory of appropriate technologies developed to alleviate the workload and increase the production and productivity of women. It also seeks to analyze the extent to which the technologies have been adopted by the intended beneficiaries and determine the impacts or changes brought about in women's lives at a result of the introduction of the technologies. The survey made an assessment of technology developing organizations with the help of a checklist. For the fieldwork a structural questionnaire was employed. The survey was conducted in selected communities of the Amhara national Regional State (ANRS) and the Southern Nations Nationalities and Poples Regional State (SNNPRS). These two regions were selected for the investigaion for two reasons. Firstly because they represent two major agricultural systems in Ethiopia, the game based farming system (ANRS) and the enset-based farming system (SNNPRS) and secondly because Winrock International is implementing gender focused food securing enhancement projects in selected weredas of these two regions.
