The EU sugar regime and world market situation in view of eastward EU enlargement

From 1 May 2004 sugar industries of CEECs joining the EU going to belong to a very stable professional community. Nevertheless, the situation on the world market challenges this community. Protectionism and cane sugar dumping generate constant trade dispute in the WTO. In this situation Hungarian sugar market can properly be protected only by the implementation of EU sugar regime, i.e. by Hungary's EU-accession. According to the rules of the EU market regulation Hungary obtained an A quota of 400.454 tons and a B quota of 1.230 tons.
