Performance and association of yield and yield components in some local and exotic genotypes of Cicer arietinum L.
1999
Omar
The research was carried out to evaluate the performance and character association in four chickpea varieties of chickpea (Cicer arietinum) at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during 1998. The varieties studied were two from Jordan viz. Jubieha-l and Flip-84-15C, and two local varieties viz. Dokri- 92 and C-727. The agronomic characters were observed. The results envisaged that both the local varieties germinated earlier. The variety Jubieha-l flowered and matured earlier than all the other three varieties. Both the exotic varieties Flip- 84-15C and Jubieha-1 produced taller plants (75.07 cm and 67.13 cm) than both the local varieties C-727 (55.85 cm) and Dokri-92 (54 cm). All the four varieties showed very little variation in number of branches per plant. The highest pod number per branch (21.57), and pod number per plant was obtained. Both the exotic varieties showed less number of grains per, pod as compared to both the local varieties. The results for the interrelationships between all the traits indicated that the correlation between the plant height and seed index reflected highly significant (1% level) and positive association of r = 0.90 between these traits. Whereas, number of grains per pod and seed index showed highly significant (1% level) negative association r = minus 0.993 between these varieties. All the other four varieties reflected non-significant in all the remaining interrelationships.
