Response of brassica genotypes to detopping

This study was carried out to investigate the response of three Brassica cultivars to different detopping levels at the experimental Farm of the University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi during 1998-99. The experiment was replicated four times in a randomized complete block design following split plot arrangement with detopping (detopping 90 and 105 days after sowing) in subplots and genotypes in main plots. All the genotypes produced taller plants, more number of branches, pods plant-1 and higher seed yield when they were kept at control or detopped after 90 days (early detopping). The yield components showed reduction with delayed detopping (105 days after sowing). The highest seed yield of 1522 kg ha-1 was obtained from Shiralee when it was kept as control (undetopped). However, the highest (17450 kg ha-1) and the lowest (1811 kg ha-1) yield of green fodder was obtained from Westar and CON- 1, respectively, with late detopping. All the genotypes were highly significant from one another for fodder yield.
