Comparative effect of different phosphates on chemical composition of wheat under saline conditions

A pot experiment was conducted to see the comparative effect of different sources of phosphorus on dial composition of wheat under saline conditions. Artificially developed levels of EC, were original (1.8), 7.5 and 15.0 dS m-1. Three phosphorus viz. single super phosphate; Di- ammonium phosphate and nitrophos were at two levels i.e. 50 and 100 kg P2O5 ha-1. A basal dose of N and K2O at the rate of 135 and 35 kg ha-1 respectively was applied. Phosphorus sources at both levels increased while increasing salinity levels decreased grain and straw yields significantly. Nitrogen, phosphorus, Ca, Mg, Na+ and Cl-1 concentration were increased while P and K decreased in grain and straw of wheat with increasing levels of salinity. The grain contents of N and K were not fenced by phosphate rates; only K content of straw beefed up significantly. Phosphorus, Ca, Mg. concentrations both in grain and straw correlated positively with P application while Na+ and Cl-1 concentrations negative correlation. All the phosphates produced comparable wheat grain and straw. However, SSP had an edge over remaining carriers and appeared to be beneficial under saline environment.
