The periodic markets have received great popularity in the urban retail system all over the world. There are a number of factors which have played a dominating role in the development and expansion of these retail stall markets such as demand, purchasing power, support of middle class, changes in the consumer's behaviour and the capital cost etc. The periodic markets held in the various sectors of Islamabad are working under the supervision of the Directorate of Sanitation (A wing of CDA). At present five periodic markets are functioning in the FCTI (Islamabad). Out of these, Itwar (Sunday) bazaar, G-6 Sector has been investigated. It was found to have a wide enough range of goods to give it a general retailing appeal, so it attracts a large number of people weekly. Since it is an important urban function of Islamabad therefore the present paper focuses on the various aspect of traders and consumers the two most important components of the phenomenon known as a "periodic market".
