Tissue culture studies of tea (Camellia sinensis L.)

The present study is an attempt to develop in vitro protocols for the micropropagation of tea (Camellia sinensis L.) Media formulations for micropropagation and somatic embryogenesis through the intermediary of callus formation have been devised for tea cultivars c.vs., Qi-Men, Jue-Keng and Ruopi. Results revealed that all the three varieties responded to callogenesis on media tested. Plants produced from somatic embryos could be further used for clonal propagation.
