Interrelationship between phytoplankton and zooplankton was observed in an artificial lake from December, 1994 to January, 1995. This lake lies in the Safari Park of Karachi. The concentration of phytoplankton remained higher than zooplankton in the surface water samples except in the autumn season while this condition was almost reversed in the depth samples. Qualitatively phytoplankton were also greater than zooplankton as they were composed of 28 species of 10 genera of three algal groups namely Chlorophyceae, Myxophyceae and Bacillariophyceae. The cells count of phytoplankton showed the abundance of Myxophyceae over other algal group. Zooplankton belonged to 21 species of two phyla namely Protozoa and Arthropoda. However protozoans were in domination.
