Effect of desiccation on yield and quality of China aster (Callistephus chinensis Nees) Aleksandra seeds

Foliar sprays of Callistephus chinensis Nees Aleksandra with Harvade 250 SC at concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.2 or 0.4 percent were carried out when seeds on the secondary capitula attained a moisture content of 57-68, 46-53 and 30-33 percent.The effect of treatments on seed number per capitula and seed weight per plant, as well as germination percentage and mean germination time of seeds collected from primary, secondary and tertiary capitula were examined.The best results were obtained after spraying the plants with Harvade 250 SC at concentrations of 0.2 percent when seeds on the secondary capitula attained a moisture content of 30-33 percent. This treatment increased seed number per capitula and seed weight per plant. It also increased the germination percentage of seeds collected mainly from primary and secondary capitula
