On the basis of long-term research, conducted on private farms on the areas affected by the Copperworks Glogow (Poland) the analysis of crop yielding and profitability of production of basic cereals in years 1993-97 was performed. Cereals, which owing to the morphology of the corn are little susceptible to the influence of heavy metals emmited by the copperworks, are the direction of plant production favoured on polluted areas and are a decise factor in financial results of farms. The research has proved that the negative influence of the copperwork on crops of individual cereals growing in various distances from the copperworks is diverse. It has also been found that farmers in this area bear higher outlays on the production of cereals than the average in the country, and in spite ot this in many analysed cases the profitability of cereal production is low, or even bears losses
