The aim of experiments performed in the years 2000-01 was to investigate the effect of temperature on the seed germination of four species: Hypericum hirsutum L., Hypericum polyphyllum L., Hypericum xylosteifolium (Spach) N. Robson, and Hypericum erectum L. in light (24 h) and at a different range of temperatures: 4-6, 12-15, 20-22, and 25-27 deg C. The objects of study were two-year-old seeds originating from the experimental field of the Department of Vegetable and Medicinal Plants. The low temperature delayed germination, but the number of germinated seeds was the same both at temperature 12-15 and 20-22 deg C. At 25 deg C the seed germination was significantly lower when compared with other treatments. Among the investigated seeds the highest germination capacity was observed in the case of Hypericum erectum (83 percent at 20-22 deg C) and the lowest in Hypericum xylosteifolium (58 percent at 12-15 deg C)
