Autochthonous breeds are part of biotic diversity and also part of our cultural heritage. Krskopolje pig is the sole autochthonous pig breed in Slovenia and has developed on Lower Carniola, where it is preserved in limited number. In the last ten years the Krskopolje pig gained importance because of preserving biotic diversity and its biotical characteristics are the subject of numerous investigations. Growth rate of ten Krskopolje pigs was investigated and carcass composition was compared to ten commercial crossbreed pigs.
