Fertility in Bardoka sheep using rams of F2 generation Sarplaninska x Wuertemberg and their effect on the rate of gain in resulting kids

The aim of this study was to find the possibilities to increase the reproductive traits in the White Metohijska Pramenka sheep and to study how they affect the rate of gain of the kids produced. Over one-year period, 136 sheep were analyzed; they were divided into two groups (the first group numbered 70 heads, the second one had 66 heads). Their age was from 1.5 to 4 years. The first group were mated to Bardoka rams in the mating season (August-September) while the second group were mated to half-breeds of F2 generation Sarplaninska x Wuertemberg. The fertility of Bardoka sheep from the second group was higher (113.3%), in relation to the estimated fertility of Bardoka sheep, from the first group (109.1%). The number of sterile sheep was almost at the same level in both groups (the 1st group 7.05% and the 2nd group 7.69%). At birth, the kids of half-breeds were, on average, 0.1 kg heavier than Bardoka kids, 0.9 kg by the end of the first month, 2.0 kg by the end of the second month and 2.9 kg by the end of the third month.
