Grubic, A. (Rudarsko-geoloski fakultet, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
The important influence for development of geology in Serbs from 1850 to 1918 has the fact that they were divided in five different regions, and up to 1878 they were both under Turkish and Austro-Hungarian rule. - The first geologists in Serbia were foreigners. Education in geology started in Belgrade from 1853 and at 1880 geological school was founded. From that time local workers started to appear. They managed too develop Serbian geology to European level. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Vojna Krajina and Vojvodina geological investigations were performed by foreigners as a rule. The exception was only the geological center in Novi Sad (Vojvodina) from 1871 to 1878.
