[Analysis of the moisture front movement through soil by application of the Richards' equation]

In this paper vertical water movement through unsaturated soil is analyzed by application of the Richards' equation applied for vertical water movement. By application of the Richards' equation the realistic estimation of the infiltration magnitude is obtained because this equation contains such parameters that reflect the physical nature of the process itself and that are measurable. By application of this equation, the distribution of the moisture content in unsaturated soil is obtained, i.e. the moisture profiles are determined. The soil moisture profiles allow the monitoring of wetting front advance affected by atmospheric conditions at the soil surface in the course of time, as well as to specify the moment when the soil surface is water-saturated. The calculation of soil moisture profiles is shown on example of the brown skeletal soil in schist, in location Rebelj, near Valjevo (Serbia, Serbia&Montenegro).
