From 1993, the table grape varieties Lilla and Nero were cultivated in the cultivar collection of the Swiss federal Research Station of Wädenswil. No fungicide treatments were carried out. Under the humid conditions of the location, Lilla showed little resistance to downy mildew, while Nero was less sensitive to it. In this climatically modest viticulture situation, the yields were clearly under the economic level, and Lilla matured too late. For a healthy and economically sufficient production of approximately 1.2 kg/m2, Lilla and Nero, which show very good sensory characteristics, require sunny situations and, under the humid conditions of eastern Switzerland, 2 to 4 fungicide treatments. Concerning the white wine variety Bianca, it was given up because of its insufficient yield, although a pleasant and harmonious white wine can be made of it.
