Genetic diversity of the vegetative organs' formation for black poplars (section Aigeiros Duby)
2003
Kovacevic, B.
Failours in survival of eastern cottonwoods' cuttings and planting material (Populus deltoides) caused important difficulties during the introduction of first genotypes of Populus deltoides. For the goal to comprehend the problem multiannual experiments were established in water culture (in four terms during the dormant period) and in nursery (five terms of digging off of rooted cuttings during vegetation period). Forty-six metric, mass and phenological parameters were examined. Also nursery experiments were established for examination of cuttings' survival and the dimensions of rooted cuttings at the end of vegetation period. Eighteen genotypes from section Aigeiros were chosen: 13 of Populus deltoides, 2 from half sib families of Populus deltoides, and 3 of P. x euramericana. The influence of genotype, year, topophisis, appropriate interactions and error on variation of rooting parameters were examined, as well as the influence of genotype, site, year, term of the cuttings preparation and nursery establishment, and appropriate interactions and error on cuttings survival and rooted cuttings' dimensions at the end of vegetation period. Significant variation among genotypes was found, as well as for other examined origins of variability, while the intensity of such influences varied among terms of experiments in water culture and nursery.
