The aim of this study was to evaluate the heat production, investment and operational costs of baled straw and wooden waste combustion in an experimental central boiler room. The central heating price ranged from 220 to 230 CZK/GJ. The price of local remote heating in two different villages was 210 and 310 CZK/GJ, respectively. The production of emissions was low and reached only about 50 % of the limit value. The heating of a village with heat consumption lower than 1,000 kW per 1 km of heating network was not profitable.
