Energy demands of agricultural production and its economic and environmental impact

An investigation was carried out in order to establish energy consumption of diesel engines used in Czech farms. Data from 1,325 farms were analyzed. The diesel oil consumption depended on the month and land category. It varied from 109.4 L/ha (some types of arable land) to 153.4 L/ha (orchards). The consumption per 1,000 CZK of profit varied from 2.6 to 6.4 L, the average having been 3.8 L. Fuel consumption per 1 ha and farm land profitability increased with the soil average price, while fuel specific consumption per profit decreased with the same parameter.
