In the present paper, the quality and accuracy of high-resolution satellite image are investigated. The 1-meter resolution Ikonos satellite image used belongs to CARTERRA Geo accuracy category. An image about a part of East-Estonia near the Emajogi river in a scale 1:10 000 was made in September 2000. To determine the geometric accuracy of the satellite image, 48 "controlpoints" were chosen. Field measurements (GPS) were performed to determine the co-ordinates of these points in the national system. The calculated co-ordinates were compared with those obtained by interactive methods (before and after the registration of the image). Different methods were applied to check on and increase the accuracy and ensure the quality. Modern methods and technical facilities to (ortho)rectify satellite images fully meet the demands set for projection modifications in 1-meter and less than 1-meter resolution images. Eliminating the systematic errors, rotations and distortions elicited by terrain by the use of "control points" and an accurate terrain model, it is possible to significantly improve the accuracy of satellite images
