Effect of growth regulators on senescence of chrysanthemum flowers

The effect of different growth regulators viz. IAA (0.1 ppm), BA (1 ppm) and ABA (0.1 ppm) in vase solutions on various physiology and biochemical aspects were recorded during senescence of the chrysanthemum flowers. The flowers kept in BA showed lesser declines in fresh weight, relative water content, ion leakage, total soluble protien content and lower activitry of cell wall hydrolytic and proteolytic enzymes. Conversely, the flowers kept in ABA showed the vice versa. The decrease in metabolic activity along with increased protien inactivation and degradation might have led to the progression of senescence in chrysanthemum flowers.
