Horsegram A promising pre-rabi crop in tribal belts of Orissa

The tribal farmers of Orissa grew horsegram in marginal and sub-marginal wastelands. With introduction of new improved varieties DS 2-2, DS 1-2, PDM 1 and VZM 1 the yield level was substantially raised to 9.6 q/ha with good agronomic management. Sowing in the second week of September with a spacing of 25 cm x 10 cm and a fertilizer dose of 20:40 (N: P2O5) kg/ha resulted in higher yield of horsegram.
