Growth kinetics of biofilm and free cells of pasteurella multocida serotype A:1

Biofilm formation is a strategy employed by several microorganisms, for survival in adverse conditions. The bacterial biofilm is defined as a structured community of bacterial cells encloded in a self produced polymeric matrix and adherent to an inert or living suface. Biofilm cells differ significantly in their physiological proprieties from free cells of the same species and are more resistant to antibioticytic, antibodies, biocides, heat and phagocytic cells than their free cell counterparts. In vitro biofilm priduction closely mimics the growth conditions of pathogenic bacteria in vivo and hence is beneficial in studies involving pathogensis, prophylaxis and theraphy. The present study was mainly centered on established whether on providing a nutrient restriced enviroment with a suitable inert surface, Pasteurella multocida orgnisize would form biofilms and if so, to optimize the in vitro caulture conditions for maximum biofilm culture conditions for maximim biofilm production.
