A study was made on the distribution of different forms of potassium in some well identified soil series belonging to the order Inceptisol. In general soils of Ghatigacchi, Debagram, Nabagram, Saurulia, Sultanganji-II, Chopra, Raichenga and Kumargram series showed a gradual decreasing trend in different forms of potassium and also in organic carbon, clay content and cation exchange capacity of soils whereas soils of Mayakul, Bhurkunda, Sultanjganj-I, Old Malda, Karadighi and Tufanganj series showed completely different trend for different forms of potassium and pH, clay content and cation exchange capacity. Water soluble, exchangeable, available and non-exchangeable potassium showed positive and significant correlation with clay content and cation exchange capacity for both surface and subsurface soils.
