Biotechnology in maize improvement success and challenges

There is an immediate need to strengthen maize biotechnology researches in India. There is also need to test already proven corn transgenics under Indian conditions and transfer those traits to elite Indian germplasm through conventional breeding programmes. Indian scientific policy makers are to be proactive in formulating policies to develop and cultivate maize transgenics in large scale to augment maize production and ensuring food and nutritional security to poor and tribal masses.
