The article depicts the importance of co-operation in the process of development of agricultural and processing branches in Latvia relating the development of agriculture with the movement of co-operation and its ever-increasing role in Europe. In comparison with EU countries co-operation in Latvia, especially in sphere of production and trade of agricultural products, is rather weakly developed. It is related to several factors (the lack of information and co-operation etc.). The necessity of co-operation in Latvia is determined mostly by the big share of the small producers in the agricultural and processing industries (for example, 59.9% of the farms keep 1 to 5 cows), causing difficulties of the selling of farming produce (not providing the necesarry amounts of products and increasing their selling costs).
