The advantage of using a soil-less medium for foliage plants in the project "Finishing and preconditioning of exportable live foliage plants" from 1998 to 2001 was determined. Floral foam is used as a rooting medium to avoid the quarantine restrictions of using soil-based rooting media mixes. Dipping the 6-inch cuttings in 200 ppm rooting hormone and planting them in foam increased significantly the rooting index, percent survival, and visual quality of the Mussaenda cv. Dona Hilaria cuttings, especially if they are maintained under 75% shade. Two commercial floral foams (Oasis and Horticube) were used in a similar experiment set-up to compare their effect as rooting media of cuttings of Mussaenda cv. Dona Luz. Results showed that Horticube produced better rooted cuttings with or without rooting hormone treatment, especially at 50% and 75% shade
