CornWorld Breeding Systems is a Filipino owned company based in Aurora, Isabela (Philippines). Although high yield is our main breeding objective, developing disease resistant hybrids is also an important component of our program. Starting in 1999, more than one thousand breeding materials and promising hybrids were evaluated for resistance to Erwinia chrysanthemi pv zeae, Rhizoctonia solani and Stenocarpella macrospora (Syn Diplodia), the cause of bacterial stalk rot, banded leaf and sheath blight and ear rot, respectively. Artificial inoculations were used in the resistance screening for these diseases. Few inbreds and hybrids were resistant to bacterial stalk rot while several hybrids and inbreds were moderately resistant to ear rot and banded leaf and sheath blight. CornWorld is committed in developing hybrids resistant to these important diseases
