Effect of post-emergence application of herbicides on the yield attributes of wheat
2002
Depar, K.H.
The experiment included six post-emergence application of herbicides, hand weed control for full season and weedy check, which were used in this study. The weed population in the experimental areas was natural, which included broad-leaved weeds, grasses and sedges. Broad leaved weeds had the highest intensity among the weeds present with 60.76 %. The results showed that all the post-emergence application of herbicides controlled the weeds satisfactorily, but the hand weeding recorded the weed control of 53.12 %. The post-emergence application of herbicide under T1 (Topik 240 EC at the rate of 200 g/ha) had highest (70.58 %) weed control percent as compared to others. The post-emergence application of herbicide under T1 (Topik 240 EC at the rate of 200 9/ha) alone had the maximum (93.45) plant height (cm), whereas weedy check for full season gave the lowest (87.75). T1 and weedy check both gave highest and lowest tillers/plant. The number of grains/earhead was increased in all treatments. All the treatments had significant effect on number of grains and it was increased at highest level in treatment, where post emergence herbicide was applied. The grain weight/earhead (g) was highly significantly affected by the treatments. The weight was increased from 22.58% to 48.57%. The post emergence application of herbicide alone gave 48.57% more grain weight as compared to weedy check for full season. The effect of post- emergence application of herbicide had highly significant effect on seed index. The T1 recorded highest 58.39 % increase in seed index, whereas hand weed control method and T4 (Arelon 50 Dispersion 0.75 1/ha) and seed index was increased from second and third highest respectively. The grain yield (kg/ha) was increased non-significantly, by all treatments. It was increase from 3085.125 kg to 3834.33 (kg/ha) under all herbicide treatments including hand weed control and weedy check for full season. The results concluded that the post-emergence application of herbicide with T1(Topik 240 EC 200 g/ha) produced highest seed yield as compared to weedy check for full season. The all post emergence application of herbicides and hand weed control methods had highest yield performance and control of weeds of wheat.
