Effect of row spacings and phosphorus levels on growth, yield and quality of mungbean (Vigna radiata L.)
2001
Ahmad, I.
The crop was sown on well prepared seed lied in 30 and 45 cm apart rows with the help of single row hand drill on 26th August. Urea and TSP used as source for N and P2O5 respectively. 30 kg N ha-1 was used as basal dose of N and P205 as pretreatment (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg ha-1). Mungbean cv. NM-92 was used as test variety in the experiment. Plant to plant distance of 10 cm was maintained after emergence. It was concluded that the various growth yield and quality parameters of mungbean such as total dry matter, seed yield, straw yield, harvest index and seed protein contents were affected significantly by both phosphorus levels and row spacings. Plant height at maturity, number of branches per plant, pods per plant, seeds per pod, seeds weight per pod, 1000- seed weight, seed mass and seed yield per plant were affected significantly, only by phosphorus levels. Germination count per unit area, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seed per pod, seed weight per pod, 1000-seed weight, seed mass and seed yield per plant were not affected significantly by row spacings. Germination count per unit area and number of plants per unit area did not differ significantly in case of different phosphorous levels. The interactive effect of two factors was significant on total dry matter, seed yield and straw yield. A consistent increase in seed yield with increase in phosphorus levels was recorded. Application of 90 Kg P2O5 ha-1 produced the maximum seed yield (897.48 kg ha-1). However it was statistically on par with seed yield obtained by applying 60 kg P2O5 ha-1. Control produced the minimum seed yield i.e. 524.79 kg ha-1. Row spacing of 30 cm was proved the best spacing which produced seed yield of 775.94 kg ha-1. The maximum seed yield of 923.81 kg ha-1 was recorded when crop was sown in 30 cm apart rows and fertilized at the rate of 90 kg P2O5 ha-1. Seed protein contents increased with the increase in level of phosphorus.
