Anti-tumour activity of methanolic extracts of Enicostemma littorale and Aristolochia bracteolata on Dalton's Ascitic Lymphoma

The anti-tumour activity of the methanolic extract of Enicostemma littorale (MEL) and methanolic extract of Aristolochia bracteolata (MAB) has been evaluated against Dalton's Ascitic Lymphoma (DAL) in Swiss albino mice. A significant enhancement of mean survival time (MST) of tumour- bearing mice and peritoneal cell count in normal mice was observed with respect to the control group. When these MEL and MAB treated animals underwent intraperitoneal inoculation with DAL cells, tumour cell growth was found to be inhibited. After 14 days of inoculation, MEL and MAB are able to reverse the changes in the haematological parameters, protein and packed cellular volume consequent to tumour inoculation.
