A novel triterpene (Neriifolione) a potent anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic agent from Euphorbia neriifolia

A novel triterpene, 9,19-cyclolanost-20(21)en-24-ol-3-one named as neriifolione (2) and cycloartenol (1) have been isolated from the latex of Euphorbia neriifolia. They have been found to possess anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic activities. The total extract of the latex has also been tested for the same activities.
