Genotypic performance of rice in Pakhal plains of Mansehra [Pakistan]

An experiment was carried out at Agriculture Research Station, Dhodial Mansehra to evaluate the performance of cultivars of the rice under agro- ecological conditions of Mansehra. The varieties included were JP5, SWAT- I, SWAT-II, DILROSH 97, PARC-3, IET-13711, IRRI-9, GOMAL-6 and GOMAL-7. The data were recorded on No. of fillers per hill, Plant height, No of panicles per plant, 1000 grains weight, Sterility percentage, Straw yield, Biological, Grain yield and Harvest Index. The analysis of data revealed that statistically significant differences were registered for all the parameters studied except No. of tillers per plant and No. of panicles per plant. The cultivars DILROSH- 97, GOMAL-7, IET-13711, SWAT-II and JP5 out yielded rest of the cultivars included in the studies. The high yielding cultivars possessed higher grain weight, lower sterility, higher harvest index, and lower straw-yield. Expressed in terms of sterility the cultivar PARC-3 was the most vulnerable to the ecological conditions of Mansehra by expressing sterility to the tune of 40%. In the light of our findings the cultivars DILROSH-97, GOMAL-7, IET 13711, SWAT- II and JP5 are recommended for cultivation in Mansehra area. Moreover, these varieties are recommended for exploitation in the breeding programs for a tangible outcome.
