Date on preweaning daily weight gain of 3976 lambs from 89 rams kept at the Livestock Production Research Institute, Bahadurnagar, Okara for the period 1960-90 were analyzed by using Harvey's Mixed Model Least Squares and Maximum Likelihood Computer Program (LSMLMW, 1990). The average daily gain in preweaning period had the heritability estimate 0.217 plus minus 0.039 as estimated by paternal halfsib correlation method. The low estimate of heritability of preweaning weight gain obtained in the present study suggested that the additive gene action is comparatively less important in influencing this trait as compared to the environment.
