The aim of this work was to establish the influence of ants Formica polyctena on properties of sandy soils in Tuchola Forest. The investigation showed that anthills, one active anthill and their surroundings showed that anthills cause disturbance of soil morphology within a radius of 2 m around the anthill and change properties of the organic horizon of adjacent soil within more than 3 m radius. The material accumulated in abondaned anthills is characterized by a low bulk density high ability of water storage and elevated pH. In soil material sampled from close vicinity of abandoned anthill an increased content of soil fraction higher than 1 mm accompanied by elevated concentration of organic matter were found
