Comparative studies on baby green turtles (Chelonia mydas Linnaeus, 1758) therapeutic trial of antibiotics and cheiical solutions in nursing tanks

Comparative studies on therapeutic trial of baby green turtles (Chelonia mydas Linnaeus, 1758) age of 3 months, 50-80 gram body weight in 1 meter diameter nursing tank and 30 centimeter height water level at Sea Turtles Conservation Station, Koh Monnai, Klaeng District, Rayong Province was developed ulcerative skin lesions. The turtles was showed irregular rim without blood-tinged on eyes, nostril, neck, tail, fore flippers and hind flippers. Application of two antibiotics and two chemicals as therapeutic treatments was carried out. Attempts to treat the disease were conducted by using oxytetracycline, tetracycline, acriflavin and pyrad violet. Mixing oxytetracycline and tetracycline in fresh fishes feed at concentrations of 100 miligram/kilogram of turtles body weight was fed to baby turtles once in a day. Acriflavin and pyrad violet with the concentrations of 0.2 and 0.5 percent was treated on the skin lesions one time a day. Acriflavin and tetracycline, treatment showed the shortest recovery time at 14.4 days and 14.8 days; survival rate were 90.5 and 90.0 percent, respectively but while oxytetracycline, pyrad violet and untreated turtles (control) was demonstrated the recovery time at 15.6, 16.2 and 20.0 days; survival rate were 88.8, 82.0 and 75.0 percent; respectively. There were a significant difference in the recovery time of skin lesions and survival rate (95, 99 percent) of baby green turtles among five treatments, respectively.
