Apramycin decreases fecal shedding of Salmonella enteritidis in broilers

Five groups of chickens were used for the experiment with shedding of Salmonella enteritidis. Three groups of chicken were inoculate orally with 1*10*[10) CFU of S. enteritidis. Fecal swaps from all groups of chickens were examined for S. enteritidis at 7, 14, 21 and 35 days after inoculation, and isolation of S. enteritidis from the tissues of chickens sarcrified at the age of 35 day old. After 7 days of inoculation, S. enteritidis positive chicks were 45.83 percent in the group of chicks (Infected, Apramycin 500 ppm), 41.67 percent in the group of chicks (Infected, Apramycin 250 ppm), and 87.50 percent in the group of chicks (Infected, untreated). After 35 days of inoculation S. enteritidis positive chicks were 12.50 percent in the group of chicks (Infected, Apramycin 500 ppm), 16.67 percent in the group of chicks (Infected, Apramycin 250 ppm), and 25.00 percent in the group of chicks (Infected, untreated). Isolation of S. enteritidis from the tissues of 3 groups of chickens (1. Infected with Apramycin 500 ppm, 2. Infected with Apramycin 250 ppm, and 3. Infected with untreated) were found S. enteritidis in cecum 12.50, 4.17 and 29.17 percent, respectively, in liver 4.17, 12.50 and 20.83 percent respectively, and in spleen 4.17, 0.00 and 16.67 percent respectively.
