Some major research results on livestock rearing in National program for science and technology entitled as "Development of deverse agriculture and step-by-step modernization (KHCN 08) during 1996-2000"

During 1996-2000, there were three research themes and two pilot production projects implemented under the national program entitted KHCN 08. The first theme was study on improving yield and quality of milk and meat productive cow under warm and humid tropical conditions in Vietnam. Research results of this study were applied in five provinces and cities improving quantity and quality of milk and meat productive cows. The second theme was study on breeding and introduction in order to purely breed and determine proper hybridization formula in highly productive pig with lean meat ratio of 50-55 percent. As results of this study, a core herd of foreign sows has been selected for producing hybrid pigs with lean meat ratio of above 50 percent. The results of this study were applied at household scale in various localities bringing in high economic efficiency. The third theme was study on selection and pure-line production to improve yield and quality of some domestic and introduced fowls for hybrid combinations in order to develop household animal husbandry. This study was accepted and put into production in 15 provinces. In addition, the program also set up a pilot production project on improvement of feed quality which were accepted in five provinces.
