Somatic embryo cycling was carried out in three soybean cultivars namely BSR 101, Gasoy 17 and Chiang Mai 60. Young pods of these soybean cultivars were treated with gamma rays at 1-11 Gy. Gamma rays at 1-5 Gy stimulated the formation of somatic embryos in Chiang Mai 60 and BSR 101 while radiation at 1-3 Gy promoted somatic embryogenesis in Gasoy 17. Somatic embryos of these three cultivars were cultured in liquid medium at pH 5.8 for 5 weeks, and then they were transferred to three different media (MSO, MSM and IB) for somatic embryo cycling. BSR 101 was more responsive to somatic embryo cycling than Gasoy 17 and Chiang Mai 60. Somatic embryos cultured in MSO medium in three different cyclings gave higher percentage of somatic embryos than in MSM and IB. In all three cyclings, somatic embryos of BSR 101 were able to regenerate into plantlets. However, it was observed that while the number of somatic embryo cyclings were increased, the percentage of plant regeneration were decreased.
