Breeding of zebra dove (Geopelia striata) in Captivity

Breeding of Zebra Dove (Geopelia striata) was conducted from December 1994 to October 1995 at Narathiwat province. Two pairs of adult Zebra Dove were reared separately in 80*100*90 cm, aviary. It was observed that Zebra Dove bred and laid egg all the year round. Two eggs were found in each cluth. Averaged sized and weight was 17.21*22.65 mm and 4.5 g, respectively. Both male and female took part in incubating eggs. Incubation period was 14-17 days. When the young bird was 2 weeks old, the mother start to lay a new cluth. Nestling was an altricial. After hatching about 3 weeks, the young bird could fly and forage.
