Real-time B-mode ultrasound with 3.5 MHz. convex secton scanner was used for pregnancy diagnosis in 451 sows at 18-35 days of gestation. Sensitivity of this technique was 92.2-98.4 percent which was closed to the +ve predictive value. The value of the specificity was varied from 33.3 to 100 percent and it was closed to the -ve predictive value. Embryonic vesicle diameter was 1.8-2.0 cm at 18-21 days of gestation and it increased rapidly after that. Embryo could be seen around the 19th day of gestation. Therefore, it could be concluded that early pregnancy (Day 18) could be detected accurately by Real-time B-mode ultrasound.
