Serum cholinesterase (ChE) was determined in 10 species of domestic animals by colorimetric method using acetylthiocholine as a substrate. Differences in serum ChE were found among species observed with the highest mean serum ChE activity of 3,038.67 +- 516.97 U/L in monkeys followed by 2,202.86 +- 516.81 U/L in horses and 1,562.85 +- 388.07 U/L in dogs. Low serum ChE level was found in ruminants : sheep, cattle, and buffaloes, whereas medium serum ChE level was found in ducks, chickens, pigs, and rabbits.
