Population and distribution range of green peafowl (Pavo muticus) in Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary

Green peafowl (Pavo muticus) know from Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary can be found along the main streams such as the Huai Kha Khaeng (After which the Sanctuary is name), Huai Ai-Yo, Huai Mae-Di, Huai Ong-Thang, Huai Thap Salao, Huai Song Thang and Huai Ra-Bam streams. The number of peafowl found is 256. The density can be calculated as 1.2 peafowl per km of stream. The Huai Kha Khaeng area can support not less than 85 percent of the total population. The peak period to observe and hear the calls of peafowl is in January.
