Grain endosperm modified maize hybrids. Physical and chemical composition
2005
Jordanov, G. (Institut po Tsarevitsata, Knezha (Bulgaria))
Maize grain forage qualities depend basically on its chemical composition. Breeding of new different grain endosperm modified hybrids is the main way for maize grain improvement. Results from the investigation of some physical and chemical grain parameters in the Institute of Maize - Knezha selected grain endosperm modified maize hybrids - lysine, waxy and amylose extender type, are presented in this study. The results show waxy type hybrids as having increased protein and oil grain content as compared with normal grain endosperm standard hybrids. This results as well as the easy waxy starch assimilation make the new selected hybrids to be of real interest as a source of better maize grain forage.
